JEALOUS East Current Exhibition
Jessica Albarn Solo Exhibition
10 May 2018 to 3 Jun 2018
For her exhibition at Jealous, Jessica will be further exploring the idea of the meadow; how it is symbolic to us as a place of peace and serenity, and where life is played out in all its beauty and brutality. She will be showing her second short film/installation with sounds by Nick Powell (musician, composer and sound designer). It will include live footage and sound recordings taken from the meadow that Jessica has been developing in Devon for the last 3 years.
This project began not only as place to research the life that grows there, but also to support the conservation of the area - for two species of bee in particular: The Shrill Carder and the Bilberry Bumblebee. Jessica has worked alongside the BBCT (Bumblebee ConservaCon Trust) to raise awareness for the plight of the bee through her work for many years.
Alongside the film she will be showing work which plays with the idea of surface and layers, using honey and glass, as well as her drawings - for which she is best known.
Jessica will also be releasing a brand new print edition with Jealous as part of her exhibition. 'Baby Rabbit' is an Archival Inkjet Print with a 1 Colour Screenprint Overlay on Somerset Satin Enhance 330gsm Paper, with Deckled Edges, and an Edition of 100.
Join us for the Private View party on Thursday 10th May at Jealous East, from 6.30 -8.30pm. All welcome!!
JEALOUS North Current Exhibition
Joakim Allgulander & John Slade
19 May 2018 to 3 Jun 2018
Jealous is proud to present ‘Stranger Danger’, a show that brings together, for the first time, the works of Swedish artist Joakim Allgulander and Dublin-based artist John Slade.
Multi-disciplinary artist Joakim Allgulander will show five new paintings, further exploring monochromatic surfaces depicting close up scenes from nature, which become almost abstracted in their close study. Using a myriad of materials, such as spray paint or metallic liquids, the works are quiet and peaceful while conveying a sense of energy and life. Alongside the paintings, Allgulander will present Burned (2007) an installation of a classic sun chair where the seat is made in red neon; it’s hot, electric and high voltage.
John Slade’s will also present a wide scope of his practice, showing multimedia works on paper and canvas in materials including oil paint, charcoal, inks and pastels .
Pieces include Slade’s recent letterpress works, featuring multiple gradients with handpainted brand logos; ‘I’m lovin’ it’ (2018) appears to resemble McDonald’s logo, distorted through the application directly from Slade’s memory. While the charcoal works are delicately worked, they depict uncomfortable moments, sharing a narrative with a dark twist and giving the viewer a sense of unease.
The exhibition, curated by Jealous, features new bodies of works from the two artists, whose works will be shown side by side for the first time.

Charming Baker & Jealous in Miami
Soho House has commissioned Charming Baker to create an installation in their Miami Beach House. Created in two chapters, the exhibition features 153 original portrait drawings of ducklings inside the House and an oversize toy plane on their private beach, that appears to have crashed. ‘Ultimately we’re all sitting ducks at some point, we have no choice, and sometimes we choose not to have a choice.’More
